I’ve whined at length about the fate of the RKO Keith’s in Flushing. What might have happened differently? Had anyone cared before demolition started, it might have been preserved and reopened, as is happening with the Loews Kings* on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. The Kings is even bigger than the Keith’s and is more famous.**
From the NYT:
Supposedly, in 2014 I’ll be able to go down to the Kings and see a show. I really, really hope that’s not bullshit, as I haven’t been in a living movie palace in a long time.
*The A/N article is wrong when they call it the “King Theater.” Brooklyn is Kings County, King County is Seattle.
**By complete coincidence, the granddaughter of the architect of the Kings is a friend. She’s also an architect, so it’s obviously an inherited disease.
