So, the big new thing in street signs n NYC is the use of lower-case lettering.
Big fucking deal. I’m still trying to get over the trauma of the feds forcing us to abandon our time-honored system of signs color-coded by borough.
Being a Queens boy by birth, I know that proper signs are blue on white:

Awful bitter, aren’t you?
Ask all you want, you’re not eating my brane.
Who took GOD off the street signs????
~
NYC DoT. Duh.
The heathen sign up there^ says Colden not Godden like a good Christian would. I haz hurt fee fees
Colden is about four blocks from where I grew up and, coincidently*, is the example of Queens colors on the NYC.gov site.
*Or is it a coincidence?
Same deal here in civilization. Why the eff do the Feds care? (OK, I get better reflectivity, but lower-case letters sure aren’t going to make reading the signs any easier.) And why do y’all have to go white on green, & we get to keep our white on blue?
Lower case does aid readability, but fuck them all. If they don’t know what street it is, they shouldn’t be going there.
Same deal out here in what we like to call “Civilization.” We get to keep our white on blue scheme though. I understand better reflectivity (Not a word?) but lower-case letters aren’t going to make the signs any easier to read.
GODAMN WORDPRESS & ITS BULLSHIT TO HELL. (Third try.) http://militantangeleno.blogspot.com/2011/03/signs-of-times.html
Hey, you coulda dumped the second & third attempts. Still not sure lower-case helps legibility, at least not for old people whose eyes weren’t the best before age set in.
Research says it is, but obviously that’s just on average.
We got BLOCK NUMBERS on our signs too, so nyah nyah. Even the nitwits can get exactly where they want to go.
Wait a minute…
